U.S. increases tsunami aid to $350M
The United States dramatically increased its pledge to tsunami victims in southern Asia Friday, raising its contribution from $35 million to $350 million US.
The announcement followed criticism the initial contribution was too low for such a wealthy country.

you're right, that is more like it. all you needed to do was talk to me on the phone about how discusted you were with much they offered to give and now they've changed their minds. you must have been beaming them you thoughts. (did you notice i got threw today?)
considering our initial aid offer was only $15 million, i'd say that's better. it still pains me that we can spend over $100 billion dollars (www.costofwar.com) on an unjustified war, but we can't do everything in our power to help countries devistated by natural disaster.
ugh!

I agree with you that the US had to increase the amount in aid yet as a Canadian I am truly disappointed in the slow lack of support given to this disaster. Paul Martin has called a meeting for Sunday (tomorrow) to deal with Canada's response to the earthquake. Canada has offered 40 million in disaster aid and sent planeloads of supplies.
They also sent a team to survey the damages. I would like to ask Prime Minister Paul Martin ...why it took so long for him to respond to the December 26, disaster . The first Canadian Supply plane landed in the region last night December 31st. Also why was Canada's Disaster Assistance Team (DART) not deployed to aid in the disaster. The 200 member Canadian Forces Team can operate a mobile comman center and a medical facility and a third of the team are water purification experts who travel with their own water purification equipment. Canada can donate and deliver all the prairie grain possible yet without clean healthy water no one will survive. Wake up Martin and do the right thing by being the best you can be.
Love you Blog....
Patricia
