My Favourite Christmas Gift

This is the mini-casserole dish that Martin made me for Christmas.
I just had to post it!

P.S. I couldn't centre this picture no matter how hard I tried.

Well, after being fogged in Vancouver for a day and a half and flown 10 minutes from our airport just to be turned around and made to land in another 4 1/2 hours away...

My Mom finally arrived late last night. Air Canada bussed all of the stranded passengers in from Kelowna. It was so foggy and gross here that I'm really glad that they didn't attempt a landing in that tiny plane.

So, our visit begins...

Five thousand floating paper lanterns fill the sky over the Andaman Sea in remembrance of tsunami victims during the one-year Indian Ocean tsunami anniversary in Khao Lak, Thailand's Phang Nga province.

Thousands of locals and foreigners gathered in southern Thailand to commemorate the December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which killed more than 230,000.

The Day After...

We had a lovely Christmas.
It couldn't have been more enjoyable or relaxing.
I swear I am just starting to digest my turkey dinner.

Highlights:

Watching the wee ones open their presents. The look on their faces when they first saw their "hockey table" in the basement was truly priceless. Putting it together was not a highlight. (sorry sweetie, I bailed after 20 minutes)

The mini- casserole dish my hubby made especially for me as well as the most beautiful necklace that took him hours to make. Pictures will definitely be posted.

Silk longjohns!

Not drying out the turkey.

Eating potatoes Romanoff with my pesto biscuits. Yum yum!

Spending the entire day with the people I love most.

Sad Week

As soon as you’re born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you’re clever and they despise a fool
Till you’re so fucking crazy you can’t follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they’ve tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can’t really function you’re so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and tv
And you think you’re so clever and classless and free
But you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

There’s room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

A Day To Remember

The Montreal Massacre

1989–A lone man walked into an engineering class at the ecole polytechnique of the University of Montreal. He separated the women and men and told the men to leave. After the male students complied, the man declared his hatred of feminists and began to shoot the women with the semi-automatic rifle he had brought with him. While police forces stood outside, Marc Lepine ended his rampage of shooting and stabbing the women he could find at the school by killing himself.

He left behind a note that detailed his plans to kill a list of prominent Canadian feminists. It was clear that the women engineering students were a symbol of women’s equality progress. Lepine’s actions could have pushed back women’s demands for social change to increase women’s equality. However women organized in defiance of his attack.

Women rose up to demonstrate in towns and cities across the country. They connected Lepine’s acts of violence to the everyday sexism to which women are subjected and committed to feminist organizing to bring into reality women’s expectations for the present and the future.

The women who were killed for daring to study engineering:

Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Barbara Klucznik Widajewicz,Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault, Annie Turcotte

Remember 62 wives killed last year in Canada
Remember 64 prostituted women gone from Vancouver
Remember 500 Aboriginal women missing from Canada

A Thousand Fish Heads For You

Thanks so much to the wonderful lady who hit my car in the craft faire parking lot today.

It really made my day to find my front indicator light smashed and to discover that my headlights no longer work. It will be a very interesting drive to go pick up my husband after he's done there.

I especially loved the part where the man who lives across the street jotted down your license plate number and the description of your car. He had a feeling you wouldn't leave a note and you didn't, because you suck!

So my tremendously busy week just got a whole lot busier. I have to go to the Police Station tomorrow to report this, then I have to deal with ICBC and then get my car fixed. Joy Joy.

At least I know who did it. A very big non sarcastic thank you to the wonderful man who heard the crash (from inside his goddamn house!) and took down the plate number. Thank you thank you.
