For someone who "can't forgive [her]self", she certainly has tried to get away from any formal consequences of her unspeakable crimes. Were the plea bargain and the subsequent appeals just so she could find somewhere cushier to feel remorse? And now she doesn't want anyone to think badly of her or hurt her. This whole thing makes one's heart ache, but not for her.
